Dear 4C'09,

Gong Hei Fatt Choy!
Happy Chinese New Year to all of you and all at home :)

It's the 3rd day of CNY and here I am, pre-breakfast, with a load of unpacked stuff in my room (leftover boxes from school), another stack of readings beside me (new stuff from my course)...and I decided I should just put them aside for a post.

Was packing my room 2 nights ago and came across our graduation pictures...that jolted back some pretty memories. I was reading the letter that I gave you people and was shaking my head in horror - the amount of unpardonable grammatical mistakes. Haha.

Okay, time has really wheezed by and O level results has come and gone. Been trying to sms and call you people since I came back and I hope I covered most of you, if not all. Some of you changed your numbers so I didn't get through to you. Sorry I wasn't able to be back in time for your results (was actually skiing away in a pretty korean mountain). You see...I figured that I didn't want to be biting my fingers in anticipation and having a thousand and one thoughts flying past my head that day...so I went for something exciting and life threatening (haha as if) to keep my thoughts sane. Pity I had no internet connection that day (bluffed by the hotel when I booked the place), my apologies to those of you who were on msn.

I hope you've more or less moved on to be ready for your courses, appeals or back to try O levels again. So here're my nagging thoughts for you, just imagine we're back in our classroom's cme/pg/cti times...hahahahaha...

For those of you who've got your choice courses - hurray! Well done!!!

For those of you who are more-or-less okay with your courses - I hope you find the goodness in your course of study as time progresses. Still, there's reason to cheer hurrays!

For those of you who are not happy with your courses - sometimes we need to do a reality check...I don't know about your situation, but do make a realistic assessment about your grades and your expected course(s), as well as the blessing that you did make it to tertiary education in the first place. Hope this will comfort you and encourage you. Alright? :)

For those of you who are trying O levels again - there is no shame in failure. Einstein failed at least 10000 times before he got us the light bulb. It's the attitude, courage and perseverence to try again that is worthy of praise. So we're all behind you, keep it going and do your best!

As we move on in our lives, meeting new people and circumstances in the time to come, I hope you will also find time to cherish and build up old friendships. A few friends told me on different occassions that their deepest friendships come from secondary school days, and it's something to be treasured and kept. So I hope this can hold true for you, that after these years in yyss, apart from the friends that you will probably meet once a year in the future, or along the streets...or through hearing from other people...you've also found some friends that you want to keep for life, friends that will walk through life journey with you.

Meanwhile, I'm doing well myself...busy teaching, studying, volunteering all at the same time and enjoying fast pace life as usual. Take care all of you, and keep in touch. May this new year bring you a deeper sense of self-awareness, peace and joy. All the best!

Dear 4C'09

Ooook. I've been wanting to post but didn't get to sit down and do it.
Ooook, no one has been posting either so I shall get round to do it. haha
Ooook, I kept thinking no one reads my entries during the whole year so I didn't post that much till Dennis told me (like super late this year) that actually you all read the posts - Sheesh!

So yes - chalet is over and thank you to each of you who contributed to making it possible. You know who you are - for buying the stuff, collecting money, keeping the place clean, (trying to) cook, letting me sleep for those precious hours (very sweet of you people to be quiet), laughing all the time, being noisy (yes I must say I missed those sounds), and all the nonsense that was happening upstairs (I'm so glad I didn't see anything else I"ll go crazy). Of cos, for simply being there :) [People, do you know that the chalet office bombarded my hp and was about to call the police because you all overslept!!!]

So yes - O levels (bet you didn't want me to highlight this word haha) is over and your hair styles and colours are all over different shades of green, brown and red...haha...

Seriously, I hope you are all doing fine out there - playing, resting, working hard...and just simply enjoying the holidays. Keep in touch - I'll be out of town for the 1st part of Jan but will have my hp and laptop with me - so I expect to me smsed and will rush back asap to hear from you people. No matter what happens, know that it's the right attitude that matters, alright?

In case I forget, Belinda will sms out everyone to come back for results day (remember to stay tune to news). Don't appear in striking hair colours (whatever you intepret my phrase). No worries, no one will be checking your nails. Those who did well, let me hurray for you first! Those who will find alternative plans, let me encourage you first! Those who probably see this as a wake up call, wake up! But whatever it is, I hope you remember and be encouraged by what I shared in the past - that you are worthy to be loved all the same!

My dear 4C,

By right, you shouldn't be seeing this post at all in the first place (cos you should be doing something more constructive!)

However, if you are here, I'm posting something for you in my bid to keep you going.

It is inevitable to be stressed during O levels, with the highs and lows of the paper outcomes and trying your best to let go and move on to the next paper - all without trying to compare with your friends, or having a host of self blame.

If you're really feeling soooo stressed, check out the following idea :P

Okay, seriously speaking - O levels hasn't ended and there are still some more papers to go.

Continue to try your best - and that's really what matters.

I was google-ing and i came across this picture, and at this point of time, i think this pic is very appropriate. So yeah, you practically choose your own route, so dont regret. The choice is up to you. Success or Failure, you decide. If you want success, then better study hard now, but if you decide to fail, then i got nothing to say, just hope you will take a second look at the second picture.

Have you ever felt the fuzzy kind of warmth and know that it's very precious and nice?

No, not necessary the romantic kind. But the sort of sweetness and comfortable warmth that can exist because of friendships, parent-child, teacher-student, neighbours, etc etc?

Upon reflection, I am thankful for that this week.

I thoroughly enjoy coming in for temperatures in the morning (so we can get to touch base & meet).

I enjoy our interactions - oh and yes I hope the inspirational posters are going to be helpful too.

Thanks for the warmth - the lovely cookies, the bunch of you who insisted that I must finish the oreo donut, the many of you who share your little life experiences with me, the conversations during lessons... and just for being in Sec 4C.

With that, I shall store these memories and look forward to telling my grandchildren (haha) in the future.

I'm looking forward to your answers to the 10 cme questions today :)

2ND IN BOSSA BALL!!!!!!

Dear diary,

I was pleasantly surprised to see 4C playing bossaball today. More than pleasantly in fact.

I made sure I stayed back to watch and support them - and their performance was beyond wonders.

I saw blue tee people walking around, and I wondered how they will fare. In my heart, I told myself - as long as they did their best, I am always proud of them.

Oh my - it turned out that I ended up being more proud of them than I thought I would. Seems like a very drastic extreme from how I was upset.

I marvelled at the unity in voices - when many screamed "4C!!! 4C!!!"

I beamed with quiet pride at the sportsmanship that they tried to display.

I nodded quietly when I saw that no one blamed each other - but supported each other.

I saw that it was like a very closely knitted bunch of youths - both on court, and off that floaty thing.

I also saw the determination on the faces - the yells of triumph each time.

I also saw the shouts of encouragement throughout.

It was a fighting spirit that will be deeply etched in my mind - the never-say-no spirit.

TO FIGHT!

During PTC today, one of you asked me this question.

"Miss Chan, do you think our class did well for mid year?"

I replied,

"Well, what do you think?"

You said,

"CMI." (cmi = cannot make it).

I've met some of your parents today.

I also saw your faces.

I also talked to some of you.

We also had our class reflection yesterday.

Enough is enough.

All the words has been said.

All the love has been given (and will continue).

All the nagging has gone on (and will continue).

All the personal problems will stay (or go perhaps...)

Whatever it is, you have less than 4 months left and O levels is waiting for you.

You all know how I feel for you, I hate to nag, I hate to scold, I hate the ugliness parts.

But like I said, I want to be honest with all of you. What has to be said has to be said.

Which is,

I don't see that all of you are trying HARD ENOUGH.

I haven't seen every single one of you trying your best best best.

But they were last minute.

They were not totally focused.

There was too much distractions.

Dear Diary,

I want to pen down how touched I was by my class today.

I was really caught up in a huge whirlwind of work and I needed some concentration and peace.

What happened in class today was like...

One word.

Amazing.

But then again, that would be an understatement.

They somehow kept so quiet for me to have the peace.

Even their "shhhhhs" sounded like soothing music to my ears.

If I had a choice, I would want to nominate my class for a Praise Award.

Each and every single one of them.

Sometimes (actually, everyday)

I get very uptight and concerned about their grades and behaviour.

I also get very easily affected by their class cleanliness.

I worry if they are playing too much DOTA, MAPLE, yah dah yah dah.

But then again, I love them for being so humane,

lovable, and just being themselves.

Each time I see them up to some funny pranks, funny jokes, funny talks, me the latest being funny hide-and-seeks, it exaperates me as much as it makes laugh. I wonder if I'll ever be a parent in the future, what would I do?

The quiet ones, the chatty ones, the lively ones, the hardworking ones, the ah-beng-wannabes, those that I never get to know better (and wish very much to), the everyones...

I suppose this is one of the most exciting part as a teacher.

Being so affected by students.

Being so upset by students.

Being worried over students.

Being a nag to students.

Being so touched by students.

Just being...

Sigh, I so dread this friday, when I shall talk to them about their studies.

I hope I've good news...and some more positive talks for the rest.

I wonder how many of us are still visiting the blog ... Common test are just days away. Funny thing, i felt relaxed despite living in fears.. Fear of exams , failing exams especially.. From my point of view, alot of us are quite breathless and exhausted already.. Some even reached the point of breaking down. Seeing friends of mine in need of help but not being able to help them, the feeling hurts so badly.. This month, May, i can say its a bad luck month for most of us... Is it suppose to be a phenomenon to have problems surfacing when exams dates rears in? Maybe theres some kind of exam spirits out there to curse examinees? Hahas just kidding.. =D ! Basically, what i really want to say is that. There is always hopes and miracles. It will always be there tp light up your way to guide you... Hopes and miracles are everywhere, and they are none other then your friends, classmates and ultimately , your parents,families and relatives. Don't lock every sorrows, burdens, stresses inside.. Humans are fragile and limited. United we stand, divided we falll. Open up yourselves , friends and families will always be there to be your listening ear, your helping hand, your miracles and hopes. This is a poem that I shared with the Lit students on thurs. Found it very inspiring, and brings me hope whenever I think about it.

The bird is quiet, stays perched on a tree branch, keeps itself warm with its feathers, and flies through the storm (Gale), strange land and sea. It never begs for crumbs and will simply try its best.

Hope is just like a bird here.

Hope is something that is actually stuck in our hearts, keeps us warm always, and will always be there for us even though we go through situations that we've never been through before, no matter how difficult the situation can be. The tougher the situation, the more we can feel hope and its sweetness. Emily Dickson (the poet) wants to inspire us to always feel hopeful no matter how dreadful a situation can be.

There will always be a way out - there is hope, for whatever season of life you are in now.

Dear class,

Term 1 has ended and we're going into Term 2 soon!

I just want to praise and affirm all of you that you've done pretty well to survive Term 1 - cca, results, bbq planning, competitions, lessons, behaviour, etc etc. Of course we also know deep down in our hearts that there are areas that we can definitely improve on, which I hope you will join me in agreeing, and also work towards them as Term 2 starts.

Agree? :)

As we start Term 2, let's learn to grow and put away our naggy feelings of "don't feel like it" but remember the purpose this year - 2009. Remember the times when I shared with you about your results, our STIs...what you shared with me, alright?

If we don't end something, there won't be a beginning...

You know, I never think that studying is boring. In fact, studying can actually be fun, and be COOL! You do it with your friends, you do it on your own, you learn knowledge that you get to keep for life, and you learn how to apply them! :)

So, have some decent rest this weekend, finish up your homework, spend time time "talking to yourself" to be ready for Term 2 and beyond, and come back fresh on Mon. Remember your HAIRSTYLES, ATTIRE, NAILS, ETC ETC...and of cos, your signed report books.

So it's the weekend again so here's my post.

As you collect and think over your results...and get ready for the last week of Term 1, here's are some food for thought.

A friend asked me this question last evening, "Do you have a dream?"

To my own surprise, I paused for a slightly longer time than usual and ran through my head for an answer.

But yes, I do have short term and long term dreams :)

Apart from our daily work, our daily activities, our daily to-do lists, our daily routines, is there something that we want, some dreams or desires that makes us want to achieve, or look at?

It can be as simple as sitting on a ferris wheel, or travelling around the world, or doing things related to children, or any other.

This has been one long week with some mountains and valleys for us, isn't it?

However, I always believe that situations that are tough actually stretch our ability to grow and mature to be gentlemen and ladies of the 21st century.

Target Setting has been done - and I want you to take it seriously from here.

Whether you're going to continue with 6 or 7 subjects, be ready to sit up and take ownership of your studies.

Of course, this has to come from your own initiative and desire to do well - and not just because I said so.

4C - we have to focus and not be complacent. We have to keep our engines well oiled if we want our car to journey as long as possible. I know some of you are anxious and taking excellent steps to prepare for your exams/daily work. Many of you are on your way to doing better. Yes, you know who you are (give yourself a pat on the shoulder).

Dear 4C'09,

Welcome to Week 7.

How has it been for each of you?

I think we've gone through quite a sizeable amount of interesting events - some good, and some...not so positive. Some of you must've gone through tumultous times, while some of you went through really exciting moments. The rest of the time, I suppose, will fall in between.

It has only been less than 2 months but I can already remember the days of exhilirating joy and laughter, the days when your clapping gave me encouragements, the private moments of STI and chats, the sms-es, the msn chats, the days when you shared so many "not-to-be-written" comments, the lessons, seeing all of you during FRC or during school days...reminding you to tuck in your shirts, cleaning the class (okay this pt very impt), studying and studying and studying and studying hard hard hard.

This friday is going to be PTC, and I've already shared with you on the contents of what I'll be sharing with your parents. I'm looking forward to meeting your parents/guardians, and to watch your reactions in their presence.

On this note, I want to issue this challenge to each and everyone of you:

"As you move on to the month of February, push yourselves to be more determined than ever before, to give it a good shot, to do well and better yourselves in 1 area of your life. It can be towards studies, towards someone you know, towards a habit, etc. This should be something that is measurable, something that can be achieved."

You will realise that if you have the will to do something, you will get there.

A short note to each of you...

Belinda: Our hardworking chairwoman, thanks for handling the organisation of 4C. All the best to your matches. Way to go!

Cheryl: Happy birthday once again. I sense that you're happier this week. Happy collecting the money...

Pei Sze: You are one whom I want to shake very HARD but also someone whom I treasure. PEISZE! What am I going to do with you? :p

Ferlyn: I'm glad to know you better. Thank you for opening up after our "episode" some weeks ago. Well done on your Chemistry test again. Keep it up!

Zheng Yi: Very proud of you that you're committed to studying even harder this year. You can do it and I know you will. Shall keep this short and sweet :)

Velda: My ever trustworthy secretary who always smiles and tries your best whenever I need paperwork to be done. Great greater greatest!

Melissa: I always see you running around serving the school. I always see your confidence and calmness as you deal with situations. I always see you trying to do your best. I don't want to see you sick. :p

Wei Jin: I hope and I know you will grow in this post as our class' welfare head. It isn't easy, but I hope you have fun planning. It's great to see you outside the staff room often. Have more confidence, you are doing a great job so far!

Yusshaika: Mak! (haha) So you have yet to ask me to wear spectacles this year. Grin. Take care while you spend time in your CCA. Don't forget to rest...but study too! :)

Emilia: Thanks Vice-Chair! I think you really value friendships and I'm proud of you for that. I know you have the capability to achieve the dreams you've in your heart.

Benjamin: My dear ben...your voice and greetings always make my day. Very proud of you that you're willing to practice self-control on your hyperness. So, did your friend keep the roses properly? (grin) Remember to priortise on what is important...

Don: I really enjoy our conversations and I sense your maturity as the days pass. Oh and of cos, I know I can trust you with any of my online/IT help! Hurray

Bee Kuan: I am amazed because I am growing to realise that you are actually someone who cares very much and works for it in your studies. I still have your lit essay (I've already explained one of your paragraphs for at least 20 times to diff. people). Wait till it's your turn, for both the essay and STI. BK, keep it up!

Cher See: Our very gung-ho makeup mother. Cher See, you are really very game and you brought so much joy to us. Don't get addicted to using your hp/pc okay? Meanwhile, continue to study and strive hard!

Jonathan: That was a good STI we had, isn't it? Actually, although you may come across as blur at times...deep down, I know that you care and you bother about certain things. You've already come this far, com'n...you can do even more! :)

Joshua: You strike me as very easy-going and accomodative. I hope I'm right. One of this days, I must climb up the stairs and have a good session with you while overlooking the school :)

Kelvin: Like I said, you've been our unsung hero all these while. Doing some dirty jobs, being very responsible in your basketball, studies and duties when called upon. Kelvin, sleep lesser in class...and I think you are capable of being one of our top students! Think so?

Shuo Feng: First the leg, then the forehead. No more hurts please. Time to be even more serious, go for what you want! You deserve a good future - it's all in your hands.

Ming Jun: Quiet but steady. Thanks that I don't have to worry about you because you're stable. But know that I'm still here.

Desmond: The ever-happy desmond...play hard...study harder. Let's STI soon, ok? Like I said, I appreciate your commitment to cutting your hair. Keep up that kind of attitude.

Dennis: So how much did you get for selling v-day poems? Dennis...you are on the centre - and you should go forth from the centre to higher places... :)

Faiz: Somehow I always find it easy to recognise your handwriting. I still remember the poems that you wrote while you were in Sec 2. I still show some of your work to the Sec 1s now. How time flies. Give your studies that extra push - the fruits will come! :)

Seng Yu: Study hard and grow into a fine gentleman. Remember our conversation by the corridor... :)

Edmund: Edmund, you are deeper and more philosophical than the persona that you protray (yes indeed). I enjoy your interventions and sharings in class, esp lit lessons.

Shunichiro: We haven't been able to have a chat at length but I hope we can have one soon. Meanwhile, know that I take notice of you too :)

Deng Ju: DJ DJ DJ...DJ DJ DJ...you make me smile, you make me pull hair....you make me laugh, do make me proud :)

Todae is suppose to be Velda's turn to post but she cant use the comp todae so i've been asked by her to take over her place~~~ Lets see what i can talk about...I shall talk about what happened today! =P Me, Belinda,Edmund,Cheryl,Desmond and Shuni was asked to see the principal in his office.. No, we are not being punished, but we were asked there because we aren't academically performing up to standard.. Principal quite much believed in dropping subjects(but too bad we are only allowed to drop only elective subject like DnT,Art,Home Econ, Literature,PoA,Amaths). He says that quality is more important than quantity(quite true), theres no point fer us to hold on to all 7 subjects if we cant cope all 7 of it.. It isnt just OUR score, its also a competition, a competition between schools amongst singapore .. It would be better fer us to drop our elective , so that we will have more time to cope with our core subjects(english,math,science,humanities) as it is the main subjects that are required to enter poly. But somehow i dun relli agree to what he says.. Becuz, if we are already weak in our core subjects, THE MORE we should not drop our elective, which most of us will use it as L1R4... So yeah basically thats it la, and for those who relli wants to drop a elective shubject, you can ask your parents to write a petition letter and give it to the principal.

And peepozz ! Stop sleeping in class !

Heyyys !! Lols since cheryl have not posted her post, so i shall post something to entertain you guys =P Im risking my life to do this, i most probably will be killed tml in school, so yeah lols !...
Long long time ago there was a beauty, a sleeping beauty.. She is a very shy person, afraid to let ppl discover what she is doing.. One fine day in 4Childcare's Chemical shop(chemistry lesson), our beloved sleeping beauty fall asleep on the desk. She realised that the Chemical shop owner(chem teacher) was walking around patrolling. Not wanting to be discovered she was sleeping,the sleeping beauty secluded herself at the corner of the shop, hiding herself behind a HUMONGOUS chair and covering her head with a HUMONGOUS cloth.. Soon after she was comfy with that area, she fell asleep.. BUT, she wasnt aware that she was DISCOVERED!! A infamous paparazzi(ME) saw her *hiding herself action* interesting, and snapped down the scene.. The infamous paparazzi therefore posted the picture on the World Wide Newspaper(this blog). THE END.

Inauguration of my first post

Dear Class of 4C 2009,

For days, I've wondered how to start my first of my many posts for you this year. At this point in time, I've much to share but I shall keep it short and to the point.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to welcome you on making it to Sec 4 after all these years. For whatsoever reasons or methods, you've made it and I'm proud of every single one of you. It means that you do have what it takes to face the journey this year!

As I've said, "LET'S START FRESH!" and so let's do so.

With the JC/POLY options availabe for you, the online searches you've done (click on this for the booklet as mentioned during our last CME lesson (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/jae/) ...

*Put away your fears and just believe in yourself!

*Do away with habits of unnecessary behaviour/appearance & focus on what is important!

*Think about your life options - like I said, not only about O levels, but what you desire in 3, 5, 7, 10, 20, 30, 40...years down the road!

I'm looking forward to knowing and growing with each of you this year. Do approach me anytime, not just during STIs, alright? :)
